Bring your passion and commitment and we’ll welcome you into a tight-knit team that takes our mission personally. Channel your drive to make a difference into shaping an organization and an industry that’s evolving fast to the future.
At Pratt & Whitney, the difference you make is on display every day. Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond?
What You Will Do
Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development including: requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle. The DPHM (Diagnostics, Prognostics & Health Monitoring) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics and analytics. In this role, we are seeking a performance engineer to be DPHM’s Commercial Modeling Lead for gas path models. The Commercial Modeling Lead is focused on accuracy and optimization of results presented to airlines in the ADEM (Advanced Diagnostic and Engine Maintenance) tool.
Coordinate team priorities to align with program milestones
Develop models for new programs (e.g. GTFA in 2025)
Validation of models with field data
Develop ADEM alerts based on a limit, a slope change, or a step change
Investigate and answer questions from EHM analysts who are confirming alerts on fielded engines
Fine tune engine models with machine learning methods (i.e. neural networks)
Development of new standard work and guidebooks
Interface between Engineering (CD, EDSI-CE) and Afterspanet Services (ADEM) for analysis, updates
Monitor performance of fielded models to ensure output is as intended
Monitor performance of alerting functions and make improvements as necessary
Set the annual plan and manages activities for the team. The most critical aspect of these models is to generate EGT margin and fuel consumption which are contract obligations to airlines.
Work closely with the DPHM Associate Director who leads industry-wide committees on gas path analysis; DPHM technical fellow, performance engineers in EDSI-CE; EHM analysts in Singapore and Puerto Rico; and the ADEM Operations team in Afterspanet Services.
Present model analysis at SIPT’s and IPMT’s. These presentations need to be concise and thorough. Ability to anticipate questions, build a good presentation and deliver it coherently are necessary.
This role will give you exposure to a wide variety of engineering challenges. You will be involved in a critical role for both Pratt & Whitney’s Next Generation Product Family of engines & legacy commercial programs.
