The platform reliability engineer role will report into the PWE Digital Infrastructure organization to design, maintain and implement Collins business wide orchestration and container management platforms to support program software, solutions, and products. The primary responsibilities include implementing, supporting, and optimizing containerized environments-based orchestration platforms across closed area systems. Additional responsibilities include partnering within the team and across functions, engineering, and program teams and personnel to optimize the use of the platforms and products as well as bring forward new ideas, concepts, and capabilities for future platform enhancements.
**This position is onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA and a Relocation package is provided if needed. **
What you will do:
Work autonomously and partner with Collins programs, engineers, and Digital Technology peers to understand their needs and solve complex problems
Partner with teams managing infrastructure, networking, and application development to forecast capacity, scaling, and demand.
Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes, how it operates, tools that support it and experience ensuring highly available and reliable clusters and environments
Experience and knowledge on the Installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Kubernetes clusters both in the cloud, on-premises, and in regulated environments
Setup, maintain and automate across various infrastructure with VMWare bare metal needs, and restricted networks
Establish monitoring tools and management dashboards integrated into platforms with best practice notifications and response processes
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience 10 years of professional experience working in technical fields as a leader, architect, manager, technologist, engineer, developer, or administrator.
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S.
Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Experience installing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting Kubernetes clusters in on-premises and cloud infrastructure
Experience working with Rancher RKE2, OpenShift Container Platform, VMWare Tanzu, and other leading Kubernetes platforms
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience on deploying new cloud native platforms and systems in classified and/or unclassified work environments.
Experience designing and operating highly scalable, secure, high performing systems, platforms, and Kubernetes clusters
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to contribute and execute projects on time and budget
Ability to translate Business and Function demands to technical requirements and tasks
Ability to clearly document and diagram technical systems
Experience working with cloud native computing foundation Kubernetes components including service mesh, service discovery, package management, observability and monitoring, runtimes, and security
Understanding of GitOps and using package management technologies with Kubernetes cluster management and operations such as ArgoCD, Packer, Helm, and Kustomize
Experience working with agile teams on product mode approaches and partnering with product owners and scrum masters to align and execute work
Implementing Kubernetes on air-gapped and regulated networks and environments
Understanding of Kubernetes based development tools such as Terraform, Helm, Python, Go, and Bash
Experience working with observability and monitoring software like Grafana, Prometheus, Alert Manager, and Loki
Experience working with Poolside environments
Constant vigilance when investigating and finding root cause of distributed system malfunctions
Ability to anticipate or adopt new innovations and advancements in the CNCF landscape to enhance the effectiveness of our products
An active and in-scope (insert level) US security clearance or the ability to obtain one

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
