Operations Control Intern
Your role
The Operations Control Intern will be part of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of airline flights. Responsible for assisting the Operations Control Centre team with various tasks related to flight operations, including aircraft tracking, flight planning, Crewing Operations, Customer Journey, Business Intelligence Reporting and Operations analysis. This internship is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in a career in aviation operations or airline management.
Context
The Aer Lingus Operations Control intern position involves working in the airline’s Operations Control
Centre (OCC) at its headquarters in Dublin. The OCC employees are responsible for managing
flight operations and ensuring the smooth and safe functioning of the airlines daily operations and
schedule delivery activities. The intern will be required to assist with tasks such as coordinating flight
schedules, monitoring daily operations, weather and other potential disruptions, and communicating
with various departments within the airline, such as maintenance and Flight Operations. This
position can provide valuable hands-on experience for individuals interested in pursuing a career in
the aviation industry, particularly in the areas of airline operations, airline management or air traffic
management. The intern will also be exposed to key airline operations management frameworks and
will gain valuable experience in a fast-paced dynamic airline operations environment. This position
also provides a Key learning and networking opportunity to learn about the Company and the airline
industry. In line with the airlines network schedule the Intern may be required to work outside of
normal office hours to support the operation.
Principle Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
- Assist the Operations Control team with tasks related to flight operations.
- Assist with analysing flight performance data and identifying opportunities for improvement,
- Support the team in coordinating with other departments such as maintenance, crew scheduling, and airport operations.
- Support the daily operations and key functions within the OCC
- Ensure compliance with all safety and security policies and procedures.
- Participate in departmental meetings and assist with Operations Control project work as needed.
- Conduct research on information related to the airline operations industry to assist delivery of the airline’s strategy
- Assist with departmental projects
- Participate in training sessions and learn about the various aspects of airline operations
- Provide administrative support to various functions within the Operations Control Department including document management, data entry, and maintaining records
- Assist the Operations Control Duty Manager at times of schedule disruption
- Assist the Operations Control management team with pre-planning functions associated with advance planning for known or potential operational disruption
Your qualifications and key criteria
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in aviation management, aerospace engineering, business administration, engineering or other industry related field.
- Demonstrates a creative and innovative approach to technical solutions with proven criticalthinking and analytical skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment and take direction from multiple supervisors
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using computer-based systems.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Previous experience in the airline industry or customer service is a plus, but not
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- A positive and willing attitude with the ability to work on own initiative is essential
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Eligible to live and work in the EU
- Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport
- Provide 2 verifiable
- Able to pass a strict airport security vetting procedure which includes a 5 year background check or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based in Dublin
