Nature & Scope of Position
The Chief Inspector must be competent in all tasks related to the overall operation of the quality department as well as the assembly, disassembly, inspection, and balancing of a gas turbine engine in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and established company procedures. The incumbent will have worked for a minimum of two years as a technician; with preference being given to individuals who have related work experience on the PT6A engine line. PW100 and JT15D experience would also be considered an asset.
Position Accountabilities
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Conduct all work in accordance with company policies, quality procedures, manufacturers and customer specifications and industry regulations.
- Liaison to the FAA as "Accountable Manager".
- Responsible for the overall operation of the inspection department (reference Chief Inspector duties in the applicable Repair Station Manual for details).
- Assist the Service Center Manager with maintaining shop work flow and organization.
- Review and update all documents related to the work being performed.
- Receive incoming Gas Turbine engines.
- Disassemble engines as required.
- Detail inspect all engine parts as required. Inspectors perform visual and dimensional inspection on individual parts as specified in work instructions.
- Balance rotating components.
- Assemble main engine, modules and all sub-assemblies.
- Flow test of individual components and assemblies.
- Prepare engine for dispatch.
- Travel will be required to assist in field service work.
- Related Airframe Experience a plus (Engine Removal & Installation, Rigging)
- Perform other departmental duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent with some post-secondary education required; preference will be given to individuals with education in the aerospace industry.
- FAA A&P Mechanic and/or Transport Canada AME License is preferred. PT6A shop and related airframe experience is required (engine removal & installation, rigging). PW100 and JT15D experience would be considered an asset
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity and good working knowledge of Airsoft and Microsoft Office.
- Basic hand tools required
Basic Job Related Skills:
- Ability to use basic hand tools.
- Ability to use and care for precision measuring and torquing devices.
- Familiarity with quality procedures and documentation including process documentation, parts routing procedures, engineering repair instructions, detailed work instructions and non-conformance report system.
- Working knowledge of Pratt & Whitney Canada publications and work instructions including overhaul and maintenance manuals, parts catalogues and service bulletins.
