Additionally, resolves and serves as a consulting resource for materials complex issues by interacting and influencing different organization leadership levels, either technically or administrative. Structures and organized resources to execute on business goals/objectives, communicating assertively to leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor others in the analysis, design, test and/or integration related to assigned components, assemblies or process systems that meet business standards, practices, and procedures, and meet the product/program requirements.
  • Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies and Procedures, Engineering Standards, Design Customer Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to other personnel and assigned teams, mentor others in the organization.
  • Assure that proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks is consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments. Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
  • Lead the solution of complex technical problems.
  • Utilize Lean tools to improve current business products and processes. Document successful Lean projects
  • Lead multiple projects, monitoring progress and quality and ensuring schedule requirements are met.
  • Check own and other people’s work.
  • Recognized technical expert in Materials Science Engineering.
  • Lead the implementation of innovative analysis, designs, development concepts, processes, and system solutions.
  • Define technical schedule cost and/or program requirements.
  • Conduct assessments and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.
  • Effectively   communicate   and   provide   recommendations   to   internal   and   external   GE customers through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.
  • Provide the engineering technical support to cross functional teams to improve or resolve design, performance, manufacturing, supplier, or field issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor associated to Materials Engineering or Metallurgy.
  • Recognized technical expert and leader in materials engineering.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in materials and processes issues resolution with a systemic view (technical, hardware, system, business, functions, and people).
  • Demonstrated leading skills at a global level (global initiative lead or associated global responsibility).
  • Demonstrated competency on topics associated to different Superalloys, manufacturing and joining processes.
  • Experience in different processes for manufacturing of parts (welds, coatings, joining methods, additive, forgings, and castings.
  • Proven experience on establishing and developing testing plans for determining materials capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, including fluency in English to interface with our US and global teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management and structured problem solving for complex materials applications.

Desired Characteristics

  • 5+ years of experience working on polymer matrix composite materials in research and/or industrial applications
  • Experience specifically with the following material systems is nice but not specifically required:
    • Injection molded polymeric composites
    • Resin infusion (RTM / VARTM) materials
    • Prepreg composites
    • Thermoplastic materials
    • Epoxy, BMI, and/or Polyimide resin composite materials
    • Elastomeric materials
  • Master’s Degree in materials science, polymer science, or similar degree.
  • Experience with materials modeling, such as process modeling or mechanical modeling of laminate materials.
  • Knowledgeable in use of laboratory equipment, specifically microscopy and microstructural analysis.
  • Knowledgeable of failure analysis in common failure mechanisms in turbomachinery components resulting from manufacturing, testing or field operation being able to interpretate metallurgical investigation reports towards root cause determination.
  • Knowledgeable of Repair and Advanced Repair Technologies such as inspection, joining, specialized welding, cleaning coating, advanced materials, and metal addition.
  • Clear, strategic, and critical thinker; proven experience in translating strategies into actionable plans.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, plan and execute important business initiatives.
