PAL Aerospace is accepting applications for motivated Offshore Ice and Environmental Observers (Full Time Fixed-Term) to join our team based in St. John’s, NL, for the 2026 ice season.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Travel offshore for up to three-week durations at a time when required
  • Work 12-hour shifts
  • Collect and report ice, weather, and marine wildlife information in an offshore environment
  • Interpret data, analyze results, and report to facility clients/management
  • Liaise with clients and senior representatives offshore
  • Ensure that all data is collected and analyzed in a manner consistent with the quality assurance procedures
  • Provide ice and weather updates as required, and participate in daily ice meetings
  • Make recommendations regarding ice surveillance and ice management actions
  • Liaise with support vessel bridge crews on ice management activities
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education or experience in a marine-related field would be an asset
  • Seabird and marine mammal experience would be an asset
  • Proficiency in marine navigation or chartwork
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Previous experience working with meteorological, oceanographic, or marine wildlife data would be an asset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility in schedule to meet requirements for ice season offshore
  • PAL Aerospace gives preference to candidates with the following:
    1. Valid BST and H2S Alive Certificates (please submit certificates with job application)
    2. Marine Radar Certificate (i.e. ARPA, SEN-1, Rutter training)
    3. Marine wildlife identification training or experience
    4. Previous experience in weather or ice observation
    5. Previous experience using radio communication (ROC-M or ROC-A certificates)
