Location: Richardson, TX Schedule: 1st shift, 7:15am to 4pm Pay range: $19

This role is critical to producing high-reliability electronic assemblies that meet the most stringent industry and customer standards.

Role Summary
The SMT Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining surface mount technology (SMT) equipment while inspecting products to IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 Class 3 standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring product quality, process consistency, and on-time delivery in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Set up and operate SMT machines, ensuring proper configuration and performance
Maintain and align solder paste stencils and apply solder paste for consistent, high-quality screen prints
Replenish and control SMT components in pick-and-place machines, verifying correct component values, placement, and polarity
Follow process and program documentation developed by Engineering for lead and lead-free solder assemblies
Complete all process documentation accurately and review routings against prints to ensure revision and program accuracy
Monitor floor stock inventory (e.g., solder paste), track expiration dates, and notify supervision of low or expired materials
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and identify when additional maintenance is required
Learn and adjust machine parameters and programs to optimize machine time and product quality
Support NPI builds by working closely with engineers and technicians
Perform hand soldering and solder touch-up under a microscope using standard hand tools and measuring devices
Conduct X-ray inspection using AXI or Glenbrook systems to verify product quality
Perform rework using Air-Vac rework equipment
Assist with training and orientation of new employees as needed
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of one year of related manufacturing experience
Experience with SMT setup, operation, troubleshooting, and microscope soldering
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow written and verbal instructions
Willingness and ability to pass J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 certification requirements
Ability to work under a microscope and meet visual acuity and color vision requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Experience programming SMT equipment
Familiarity with Class 3 electronics manufacturing environments
Experience with X-ray inspection and SMT rework equipment
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Ability to perform repetitive motions while standing for extended periods, with occasional sitting, twisting, and stooping
Comfortable working around chemicals, odors, and warm temperatures
Must pass pre-hire and biennial vision exams (20/20 with or without correction and standard color vision)

Pay Details: $19.00 per hour
