Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Position Summary:
A Level 2 Certified Shot Peen Operator shall possess the skills and knowledge to perform all duties of an Entry Level Trainee and Level 1. They will be expected to operate both automated and manual shot peen machines, and perform testing for conformance of certified equipment, material, and in-process inspection of aerospace production parts. Additionally, Level 2 Operators shall design required technique cards associated with production parts for the record of processing method and requirements given per specification and drawing. Candidates must be self-disciplined and self-motivated individuals with strong accountability (attention to details) skills. Candidates must have the ability and desire to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced production environment, be resourceful and innovative along with presenting a strong business ethic and compliance to leadership and company policies, and a good communicator with the ability to represent the company in a positive manner. Level 2 Certified Shot Peen Operators will also be expected to provide leadership and oversight to lower level employees.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reviewing and assimilating work instructions relating to racking, cleaning and masking operations.
- Perform receiving inspections (before processing) as needed and immediately report any damage or discrepancy.
- Will require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during certain tasks (goggles, safety glasses, aprons, boots, gloves, hearing protection, etc) and be expected to comply with safety directives and policy.
- Setup and operation of automatic shot peen machine (Wheelabrator).
- Perform manual shot peen operations using cast steel or hard (cut-wire) shot.
- Testing and measuring of shot media quality and performance, and documenting results.
- Perform inspections of surfaces and part features tolerances, post peening operations, to insure compliance to specification, drawing, and/or customer requirements.
- Development of shot peen technique cards.
- Gathers supplies such as racks, tooling, baskets, carts (etc).
- Racking and turning of production parts for shot peening operations.
- Cleaning of production parts which include degreasing or manual solvent cleaning.
- Routine shot peen machine maintenance.
- Will be exposed to chemicals/solvents and occasional fumes, wet/humid conditions, low-level lighting, and moderate noise level.
- Will at times require heavy lifting or use of mechanical hoist for the aid in lifting objects.
- Complete documentation, counting of production parts, computer scanning, package to protect and transport, and other assigned tasks.
Required Skills:
- Basic mathematic skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Basic computer skills in MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to independently perform all the duties of a Shot Peen Helper (entry level position) and Certified Level 1 Shot Peen Operator.
- Understanding of basic geometry concepts and applications for effective and complete peening coverage of production parts.
- Familiarity of codes, standards, and specifications relating to the shot peening process, including metal forming and machining standards prior to conditioning and finishing.
- Blueprint reading and interpretation skills pertaining to aerospace production detail parts and sub-assemblies.
- Ability to properly use measuring and inspection equipment such as digital scales, feeler gauges, magnifiers, and Almen strip holders.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Specifically, applicants must be able to read and understand written procedures and instructions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

Required Experience:
- Experience relative 2 to 4 years as a Certified Level 1 Shot Peen Operator.
Level of Education:
- General Standard education including the ability to read and write in English.
- Practical testing for Shot Peen Level 2 status, with a minimum score of 80.
- Attend formal training class and require 80 passing grade.
